Sponsor a Foster Youth Intern

CCAI's Foster Youth Internship Program™ is a highly esteemed Congressional internship with the mission of engaging Members of Congress in reforming the U.S. foster care system. Foster Youth Interns provide firsthand experience that serve as a roadmap for reform legislative policies.

CCAI has provided more than 170 interns with a Capitol Hill internship experience that not only develops and launches this vulnerable group of young people into their professional careers, but also facilitates opportunities for them to advocate for better federal policies for foster children all across the nation.

· Only 58% complete high school by age 19.

· Only a staggering small 3% will complete a college degree.

· Only 50% will be employed by the age of 24.

· 1 in 4 will end up in the justice system two years after aging out of care.

· 71% of young women will be pregnant by age 21.

Join CCAI and help launch a foster youth into a bright future! During this program, CCAI organizes retreats, advocacy trainings, and various networking opportunities with experts in the child welfare field. Interns research policy issues affecting foster children across the country to produce a policy report that is presented at a Congressional briefing. As a result, federal policymakers are shown firsthand the real life experiences of youth growing up in foster care, thus leading to improved legislation of the U. S. foster care system.

We are proud of the accomplishments of our Foster Youth Interns. Our interns complete their undergraduate degrees, a great many of them go on to complete master’s degrees and juris doctors. Several of the interns continue to use their newly honed advocacy skills to speak up for foster care reform. In addition, our interns have gone on to intern in the White House and settle into jobs in the U.S. Senate, House of Representatives, law firms, Federal Bureau of Investigation, counseling firms and national child welfare organizations across this country. They defy the statistics for their peers from foster care.
